16 Killed, 8 Injured in Telangana Highway Crash

16 people died and 8 were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck loaded with ballast on Mirzguda-Bijapur Highway.

Telangana: At least 16 people were killed and eight injured in a massive road accident in Telangana's Rangareddy district on Monday. The case is of the Mirzguda-Bijapur Highway, where a tipper truck loaded with ballast collided directly with an RTC bus coming from the front. 

How did the accident happen, and under what circumstances?

The bus in which the incident took place was heading from Tandur towards Chewela. According to the information, the tipper truck was also coming from there. The truck's load of crushed stone fell on the bus, causing massive destruction. Chevella ACP B. Kishan clarified that the 16 people included the driver of the truck and several passengers of the bus. 

The investigation is now on whether the truck was trying to overtake first or was moving in the wrong direction.

How are the rescue and relief operations going?

Police and local administration reached the spot, separated the bodies, and sent the injured passengers to the hospital. Rajendranagar DCP Yogesh Gautam said that traffic has been diverted from both sides and bodies and injured victims are being evacuated.

How did the government and ministers react?

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed deep anger over the incident and ordered immediate relief and rescue operations. He ordered the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to take the injured people to Hyderabad and ensure better treatment. Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu also reached the spot to inquire about the condition of the affected families and asked the officials to expedite the work. 

What will happen next now?

Police are currently taking preliminary action against the truck driver and bus driver. To clarify the reasons for the accident, the ACP has said that evidence is also being collected as to whether the truck was in the right lane or not.
